"Coming-of-age biopic about 1970s all-girl teen band The Runaways. Kristen Stewart stars as Joan Jett, the rebellious rock and roll chick who learns to play guitar and dreams of forming a hardcore, all-girl rock band. When she meets eccentric record producer Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), he is struck by the possibilities of exploiting a 'jailbait' teenage girl band with guitars, and together Jett and Fowley comb the sleazy nightclubs of Los Angeles in search of further band members. They eventually find their lead singer in 15-year-old blonde sexpot Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), and are soon signed by Mercury Records who send them off off on a tour of Japan. But the rock star life soon starts to take its toll as the girls - still underage - become immersed in a destructive combination of sex, drugs and in-fighting."

"An all-girl teenage rock band, the Runaways, finds fame during the 1970s."@en
"Follows the outrageous success and then inevitable split of an all-girl teenage rock band lead by rebellious Southern California friends Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. With Jett's tough girl image and Currie's sex-kitten looks the band easily rose to the top under the tutelage of rock impresario Kim Fowley. After Currie pushes her life to the edge, she decides to leave the group, which causes the girls' friendship to suffer. However, Jett will continue on to further success."@en
