Filmed during May/June 1981, Land of look behind moves from country to city and back again and has as its spiritual nexus the funeral of beloved reggae emissary Bob Marley. A refrain from one of Marley's hits, "You think you're in heaven but you're living in hell," provides the social subtext. This leisurely-paced documentary begins in Trelawney Parish bordering the cloud-enshrouded Look Behind Forest where a country man delineates the district's perils - sinkholes and cliffs that claim victims who are never heard from again. Jamaica's uncertain terrain is matched by unstable economic conditions that have spawned widespread disaffection, given voice in Jamaican popular music. Among those who appear are reggae artists Lui Lepki and Gregory Isaacs and poet Mutabaruka (Allan Hope)."
