"A simple farmer is seduced by an alluring city woman; to be with her he plans to drown his wife. The wife suspects nothing when her husband suggests an outing, but when they set off across the lake, she grows suspicious. He prepares to throw her overboard, but she pleads for mercy, and he comes to his senses. He rows frantically for shore, but when the boat reaches land, she flees. He follows, begging her not to be afraid. Slowly, she begins to recover. They wander into a church where a wedding is taking place. Breaking down, the husband begins to repeat the wedding vows, finally convincing his wife that she has nothing to fear. On their way back home across the lake, a sudden storm arises. The man remembers the bundles of reeds he placed in the boat to save himself, and ties them around his wife. The boat capsizes. Washing up on shore, the unconscious man is brought home, but his wife is nowhere to be found, and it appears that she has died. The man is grief-stricken. The other woman comes to his house, assuming their plan has succeeded. Enraged, the man begins to strangle her, but the word comes that his wife has been found. He releases the woman and runs to his wife, kneeling by her bed as she slowly opens her eyes. As the other woman drives away, the man and wife cling to one another, watching the sun rise above their now-happy home."
