This program looks at the complex issues and difficult decisions that are involved in creating a new independent nation. Episode one, Rosa's story, deals with Rosa Martins, a young widow, who is determined to give her sons and daughters a good education and the opportunities denied her by war and poverty. Episode two, Lu Olo's story, deals with Francisco "Lu Olo" Guterres as he makes the transition from guerilla fighter to politician during the lead up to East Timor's first national democratic election.
