"Ruth Orkin's career began by photographing Hollywood celebrities in the 1930's and continued through the early 1980's with photographs taken from her window in New York City. In 1951, she went to Europe and it was in Florence where she photographed American girl in Italy, which became her signature image. Orkin and husband Morris Engel produced and directed two feature films together, including the classic Little fugitive, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1953. ...
