A prequel to the Partners in crime series. Returning to London after World War I, Tommy Beresford runs into Tuppence Cowley, who nursed him in the war. The two seek work together and are soon hired by the British government to find a secret treaty which, if it falls into the wrong hands, could spell disaster for the United Kingdom.
