President Roosevelt addresses the nation, following a Nazi submarine attack on the American destroyer, the U.S.S. Kearny. He discusses the threat of Nazi world conquest and emphasizes the need for Americans to work to equip its armed forces to achieve "total national defense" against further attacks. He also calls for America to help supply the armed forces of Russia, China, and Great Britain.
