"Perhaps one of the most popular of Stevenson's works, A child's garden of verses, first published in 1885, is regarded universally as an outstanding example of the greatest recollections of childhood in verse. Featuring the superb illustrations of Charles Robinson, and including the original advertisements from the 1886 edition, this volume has a nostalgic feel which complements Stevenson's evocative verses with elegance and flair. Dedicated to Stevenson's nanny, Alison Cunningham, 'from her boy', this childhood classic features favourites from The Land of Nod to the immortalisation of Leerie, The Lamplighter. Altogether, this beautiful edition is a fitting tribute to a wonderful writer and one which will continue to appeal to lovers of literature, young and old."

"A collection of poems evoking the world and feelings of childhood. The 64 poems in this book are a masterly evocation of childhood from the author of Treasure Island and Kidnapped. They are full of delightful irony, wit and the fantasy worlds of childhood imagination, and introduce for the first time the Land of Nod. But they are also touched with a genuine and gentle pathos at times as they recall a world which seems so far away from us now."

""This is a multi-sensory, highly interactive Theatre for Very Young Audiences piece. Its words and actions are inspired by the classic book of poems by Robert Louis Stevenson. A few actors and a musician, puppetry and play, help audiences grow a garden and their imaginations as they frolic in the leaves, feed a bird, sing in the rain, dance with the wind, build a boat and discover treasures, including the greatest of them all--friendship. They also plant seeds and words that, with careful tending, grow into flowers and poems to bring home. This play is specifically devised for preschool children as young as 15 months old, but can be enjoyed by children as old as those in first or second grades. A Child's Garden of Verses calls for the musicalization of some of the Robert Louis Stevenson poems or excerpts thereof. Producers can choose to create their own music for the piece or arrange to use the wonderful songs created by Scott DePoy for the premier production at the Alliance Theatre, which commissioned the work"--Back cover."@en
