  • "At the beginning we are shown Mr. Chips at the close of his life, a very old and sick man. Then, by flash-back, his career at Brookfield School is unfolded; his early diffidence and unpopularity; his disappointments; his courtship and marriage; his retirement; his temporary headmastership during the war, and finally, loved and honoured, his death."
  • "The story of a venerable British public schoolmaster, whose career at Brookfield Academy spans the years 1870 to 1928, told through vignettes portraying comic and tragic events in his life. The film follows the career of retiring schoolteacher Charles Chipping, nicknamed 'Mr Chips', from his first days as an unpopular novice instructor through the marriage that brings him out of his shell to his final years as the school's beloved statesman. Robert Donat won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance, defeating some of the most famous nominated performances in film history - Clark Gable's performance as Rhett Butler, James Stewart as Jefferson Smith in 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington', and Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff in 'Wuthering Heights'"@en
