Dank der Perspektivenwechsel werden die Lesenden in die Familiengeschichte eingeführt und ahnen nach und nach mehr über deren Geheimnisse. Die bildhafte und poetische Sprache vermittelt eine klare Vorstellung über Kanadas Landschaften und damit eng verknüpft das seelische Ringen Odellas.
