The eclipse of Moonbeam Dawson

Raised on a commune by a granola-munching ex-hippie mother, fifteen-year-old Moonbeam realizes that nothing is normal in his life and so sets out to change things. It's hard enough being a normal teenager. But when your name is Moonbeam and you've grown up on a commune run by a bunch of refugees from the 60s-who's to say what's normal? Certainly not Moonbeam. First, his mom's a total flake. All Moonbeam wants is to be able to play basketball, eat junk food instead of macrobiotic vegetable souffle with pureed tofu sauce, go to a regular school with regular kids, and meet girls. When he gets a chance to work at a resort in B.C., he figures it's his chance to strike out on his own. Unfortunately, all he seems to do is strike out! Until he realizes that it's not what you're called that counts, but who you are. Meeting girls and going to school and hanging out with friends shouldn't be that tough. But it is if you're fifteen and you're biracial and your name is Moonbeam and you live on a commune with your mother and a bunch of granola-munching, tie-dyed, tofu-eating, sandal-wearing hippies! All moonbeam wants is to be normal, but as Moonbeam is about to discover, life for a normal teenager is anything but.
