  • "Rotman describes the Tacoma Jewish community, the two synagogues, Chevra Talmud Torah and Congregation Beth Israel, and the early families who were active in them. She talks about Beth Israel's controversial rabbi, Montague Cohen, who was succeeded by Rabbi Bernard Rosenberg. She explains that Chevra Talmud Torah had many rabbis and while originally Orthodox, became a Conservative congregation under Rabbi Baruch Treiger's leadership. She describes the 1960 merger of the two temples into Temple Beth El under the leadership of Dr. Leon Diamond and Rabbi Richard Rosenthal. Mrs. Rotman was head of the Sisterhood (a Temple Beth El auxiliary) rummage sale for many years. She was also a charter member of the Tacoma section of the Council of Jewish Women."
