"Die Wirtschaftsinformatik befaßt sich mit der Untersuchung der Struktur und des Verhaltens betrieblicher Informations- und Kommunikationssysteme (IKS) sowie mit deren Planung, Ent wicklung, Einführung und Betrieb. Die große Verbreitung und Bedeutung solcher Systeme in der Unternehmenspraxis sowie die erfreulich große Zahl von Studiengängen, Vertiefungsgebieten und Wahlfächern zu Wirtschaftsinformatik an Fachhochschulen und Universitäten haben dazu geführt, daß heute eine Vielzahl von Lehrbüchern zu diesem Thema angeboten wird. Viele Bü cher sind jedoch noch immer von einer früher vorherrschenden, technischen Sicht bestimmt, sie fangen mit der Hardware an und kommen erst zum Schluß zu den eigentlichen unternehmeri schen Problemen ("Bottom-up"- Orientierung). Wir versuchen deshalb mit diesem Buch, IKS von ihrer strategischen Planung bis zu ihrer Realisierung mit bestehender Software und Hardware zu erklären C"Top-down"- Orientierung). Das "Wozu" wird kon sequent dem "Wie" vorangestellt. Es wird auch auf einige techni sche Details verzichtet (z. B. im Hardwarebereich), um den Um fang des Buches etwas geringer zu halten und um den heute wichtigen Themen (z. B. Fremdbezug von Dienstleistungen der Informationsverarbeitung, betriebswirtschaftliche Standardsof- ware, Telekommunikation) mehr Raum widmen zu können. In Teil 1 des Buches wird zunächst die Nutzung der Potentiale von IKS zur Lösung betrieblicher Probleme analysiert. In Teil 2 werden die unterschiedlichen, zur Erreichung dieser Ziele ver fügbaren Anwendungsarchitekturen vorgestellt. Nachdem die Struktur und das Verhalten solcher Anwendungsarchitekturen er klärt wurden, wird in Teil 3 beschrieben, wie deren Komponen ten, nämlich einzelne Anwendungen, selbst entwickelt oder aus fremd bezogenen Standardkomponenten geschaffen werden."
