Professional correspondence pertains to book buying trips to Europe and South America for Harvard and other libraries, and includes letters from major European booksellers and antiquarians. Other correspondence concerns Lichtenstein's business activities at First National Bank of Chicago between 1918 and 1945, and also correspondence, memoranda, and official documents about his service as advisor to post-World War II military government of Germany and restructuring of German banking. Other material relates to involvement in organizations concerned with issues, such as Jewish refugee relief, and foreign affairs and business, and his 1930 trip to Russia.
