Whether he is interviewing stock brokers outside the Paris bourse, or young lovers, Marker's camera captures the individualism and dignity of the Parisians he encounters. The interviewees include a worker priest who has embraced militant unionism, a salesman who claims that he is a slave to work and money, three sisters from the 16th Arrondissement, and a student from Dahomey. Marker's film captures a bygone era before home movie cameras became widely available, when men and women were unaware of there own image on camera. The resulting innocence and openess captured during the film's interviews is striking from todays vantage point."@en
