"A striking look at Paris in the Spring of 1962, a year after the end of the Algerian War and the first time that France was at peace since 1939. The filmmakers interview recently arrived African immigrants as well as longtime Parisians to create a portrait of Paris in the aftermath of two wars. Utilizing his unique interview style, director Chris Marker puts his subjects at ease to such a degree that they appear to welcome his questions, revealing their hopes and anxieties as well as the enormous optimism and possibility of the era. Whether he is interviewing stock brokers outside the Paris bourse, or young lovers, Marker's camera captures the individualism and dignity of the Parisians he encounters. The interviewees include a worker priest who has embraced militant unionism, a salesman who claims that he is a slave to work and money, three sisters from the 16th Arrondissement, and a student from Dahomey. Marker's film captures a bygone era before home movie cameras became widely available, when men and women were unaware of there own image on camera. The resulting innocence and openess captured during the film's interviews is striking from todays vantage point."@en

"La prière sur la Tour Eiffel" donne la parole aux gens de tous les jours (bougnat, marchand de vêtements, architectes et amoureux) qui créent l'atmosphère de ce mois de mai. "Le retour de Fantomas" plonge davantage dans la réalité politique et sociale avec des personnes ayant un engagement (prêtre ouvrier, grévistes...)."
