Mister Rogers' neighborhood Ready to read? Program 1757

Mr. Rogers enters carrying a magnifying glass; he magnifies his eye, then his hand, then the title on the cover of a Japanese edition of Eric Carle's 'The red fox.' He says that making the Japanese words bigger does not help us if we do not know what they mean in the first place. Joe Negri calls and we go to his music shop to meet and talk to guitarist, Manuel Barrueco. Tony Chiroldes arrives with a toy trombone that is really a kazoo.

  • "Back in Mr. Rogers' house Mr. Rogers feeds the fish and uses the magnifying glass on them and then on the tiny model trolley. Mr. McFeely arrives with a kazoo like the one Tony brought to Negri's Music Shop. Mr. McFeely leaves and Mr. Rogers tells us that loving neighbors can be the best gifts in our whole living time."@en
  • "In the NOM, H.M. and Queen Sara are at the castle, and Queen Sara gives H.M. a picture that she painted for him; she tells H.M. to look carefully at the picture. King Friday arrives and tells H.M. to go and ask Corny about the 'looking inside of things' device and to bring it back to the castle, and as H.M. goes off to do that, he runs into Mr. Aber who is carrying a package that is for Lady Elaine. The two decide to go to the factory and then to the Museum-Go-Round. At the factory, Corny has the 'look carefully device' (magnifying glass) ready; H.M. and Mr. Aber use the magnifying glass on H.M.'s picture and they find four 'H.M.'s in it that were not as visible before. Mr. Aber says that King Friday may not like the device since he wants to see inside of things, not just to see a bigger version of what is already visible. When H.M. and Mr. Aber go to the Museum-Go-Round to drop off the package, there is a note that says Lady Elaine is very busy and to please leave all deliveries behind the wall. Mr. Aber does as the note asks and he and H.M. go back to the castle."@en
