"Total knee arthroplasty has seen great improvements in prosthetic design and operative technique, with ongoing research and development in fixation, long-term radiological follow-up, biomechanical evaluation, and biomaterials research. In knee ligament reconstruction, there has been rapid progress in clinical practice and fundamental research by means of arthroscopic surgery and tissue transplantation. Against this background, the International Symposium on Reconstruction of the Knee Joint was held in March 1994 in Nagoya, Japan. This book, the proceedings of the symposium, presents reports of the latest information and experience in knee ligament reconstruction and total knee arthroplasty, with topics that include surgical technique, prosthetic design, post-operative management, and clinical evaluation. Reconstruction of the Knee Joint will interest all who are involved with knee joint surgery, students and experienced surgeons alike. The reports here will also be of benefit to physiotherapists and other rehabilitative clinicians as well as to researchers and design engineers of artificial joints and surgical instruments."
