"Two ALS from Bougainville to his brother Jean-Pierre, dated June 4, 1756 and July 3, 1757. The first letter describes his voyage to Canada, the situation at Montreal, plans for an expedition southward, his relationship to Montcalm, and news of the war. The second letter responds to news of family and friends, praises Montcalm, describes the harsh winter, and refers to notes he is making on the Five Nations. The report, entitled "Precis de ce qui s'est passe de plus considerable dans l'Amerique Septentrionale pendant l'hyver de 1756 a 1757," is a holograph draft describing the French dealings with the Five Nations: the reception of their embassy in Montreal, and attempts to turn them from the British side."
