"A Russian fairy tale about an orphan girl Daryonka and a lonely old hunter Kokovanya, how they lived together and how Silver Hoof helped them to go through the cold winter and made them rich forever."
"A collection of adaptations of Russian fairy tales."
"An old widowed hunter named Kokovanya was so lonely that he adopted Daryonka, a poor little orphan girl, and her cat. He told Daryonka the story of Silver Hoof, the magical goat. Legend had it that Silver Hoof was a very special goat. Where most goats have two horns, Silver Hoof had antlers with five tines. On his right forefoot he had a silver hoof. When he stamped his foot, a gem would be left there. If he stamped it twice there would be two, but if he pawed the ground there would be a whole pile of gems. Kokovanya and Daryonka and the cat spent all one winter at a cabin in the forest hunting Silver Hoof, but in vain. In the spring, while Kokovanya was in town, Silver Hoof appeared at the cabin and jumped on the roof and stomped, covering the whole cabin with precious gems, then he and the cat disappeared. Kokovanya came home and put some gems in his hat, then he and Daryonka went to sleep and had wonderful dreams. When they woke, all the gems were gone except the ones in the hat. No one ever saw Silver Hoof or the cat again."
"The book includes the best tales and legends created by the famous storyteller Paul Bazhov. The stories bring to life the mysterious world of the Urals, full of secrets, mysteries and unique charm."
