  • ""Pope Paul VI's mission of peace to the United Nations brings fourteen crowded hours in New York. From his arrival at Kennedy Airport his motorcade goes through three boroughs of the city to his first stop at St. Patrick's Cathedral. He is greeted with cheers and applause--startling to American congregations but quite usual in Rome. After a meeting with President Johnson, the Pontiff goes before the General Assembly to plead the cause of peace in eloquent French. 90,000 people jam Yankee Stadium to hear the first Papal mass ever held in the Western Hemisphere. His Holiness again takes the opportunity to speak for the blessings of peace. Communion is given to twelve U.N. children--two from each of the six continents. The Pope's final stop before returning to Kennedy Airport and thence home is the Vatican Pavilion in the World's Fair. Here he contemplates the great Pieta of Michelangelo which he himself has lent to the Fair from its customary place in St. Peter's"--Hearst synopsis sheet."
