"The life and career of stripper, actress, author and TV talk show hostess Gypsy Rose Lee (1914-1970) is examined through a combination of archival footage and interviews with family members, theater scholars, employees and fellow show business professionals who knew and worked with her. Gypsy Rose Lee's relationships with colleagues Michael Todd and Otto Preminger, and with her mother Rose Thompson, are discussed. Also explored is the 1959 Broadway musical Gypsy, based on Ms. Lee's autobiography, and the impact the show had on the relationship between Gypsy Rose Lee and her sister, actress June Havoc."
