  • "Fifty-three letters, notes and postcards sent to the art critic Roger van Gindertael, primarily from artists whose work he reviewed. Of the nine letters from the art historian and poet Michel Seuphor, one arranges a meeting between Gindertael and Jean Arp (1952). The painter Charles Lapicque describes his upcoming exhibitions and his contribution to the Venice Biennial (9 items, n.d.). Lapicque also includes an exhibit list of his paintings. In one note, Jacques Villon expresses his appreciation for Gindertael's favorable review of his work (1961). The three letters from Jean Dubuffet discuss an article by Gindertael and extend invitations to dinner (1954, n.d.). Letters by others comment on articles and critiques of their work written by Gindertael, offer works of art to him to express their appreciation, and invite Gindertael to exhibitions and social engagements. Artists represented include Roger Bissière, Marcelle Cahn, Alberto Magnelli, Victor Vasarely, and Jean Pougny, whose biography Gindertael wrote. The collection also includes one letter each from the following artists: Jean-Michel Atlan (n.d.), Corneille (1953), Jean Degottex (1953), Jean Deyrolle (n.d.), Philippe Hosiasson (1954), E. L. T. Mesens (1953), Jean Messagier (n.d.), Antoine Pevsner (1952), Arpad Szenes (n.d.), and Pierre Tal-Coat (n.d.). A two page offprint appears to be an introduction to a book or exhibition catalogue (1952)."
