New Waves in Philosophy of Language

New Waves in Philosophy of Language is a collection of new essays by some of the most innovative young philosophers currently working in the field. The issues taken up in the collection arise within the context of developments in the Philosophy of Language over the past 50 years and are hence on some level familiar: the relation between language and thought, the normativity of language, the prospects for a naturalistic account of language, the nature of linguistic understanding, the semantics of proper names and expressive terms, vagueness, assertion and analytic truth. However, the treatment of the issues is new, enriched by developments in psychology and linguistics, as well as by developments on other areas of philosophy. Overall, the diversity and rigour of the collection reflects the liveliness of current debate in Philosophy of Language and confirms the wealth of ideas that are emerging.
