Troubled waters

When fourteen-year-old Sara Jenkins rescues her baby sister, Myfanwy, from the fire that kills their mother, little does she realise the burden she is taking on. Her father Ifor is strict and cruel and when Ifor remaries, Sara finds her new stepmother a hard taskmaster. Rhys Edwards, nephew of the owner of the bakery, falls in love with Sara and they plan to make a new life together in Cardiff - but Sara finds herself alone there, pregnant and destitute.
