Uprising

After Germany invaded Poland in Sept. 1939, the Germans decreed that all 350,000 Warsaw Jews be forcibly detained in the area known as the "Warsaw Ghetto". In fear for their lives, the Polish Jews form the Jewish Fighting Organization (JFO) to fight against this oppressive force. When the German troops march into the Ghetto, they are surprised and repulsed by the JFO fighters. The resisters may not be able to achieve victory, but they intend to live with honor--and if need be, die with honor--while lighting the torch for resistance in the occupied territories. Their resolve will be tested as the Nazi's promise to completely eradicate the Ghetto as a birthday present for Hitler.

  • "January 18, 1943. Nazi troops again sweep into the Warsaw Ghetto for a mission they've carried out many times before: gather Jews for deportation to the Treblinks death camp. But this time is different. Armed men and women of the Jewish Fighting Organization slip into the crowd of deportees. When the signal is given, they turn upon their oppressors and strike a bold blow for freedom."
  • "The Nazis meet stiff resistance when they try to deport the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto."
  • "Homemade bombs rain from rooftops onto the street. Rifle fire erupts from windows. Jewish men and women of Warsaw, Poland, are fighting back against their oppressors. History's largest campaign of armed Jewish resistance to Nazi tyranny during World War II is in its full fury."
