The cat who read backwards

Jim Qwilleran is starting over as an art writer. When a murderer sticks a knife in the neck of a local gallery owner and goes berserk among the works on show, Qwilleran has a hard time sorting out the pieces. He figures it out with the help of a Siamese cat he has adopted.
