Included are deeds, 1665-1832; wills, probate papers, and estate inventories, 1691-1875; contracts, receipts, and bills of sale, 1727-1853; reports, 1843-1870; clippings and articles by or about Smith family members, 1829-1986; correspondence, 1780-1939; memoirs and biographical sketches, 1873-1922; genealogical notes, marriage lists, ancestor charts, copies of Bible records, 1884-1987; notebook of E.P. Buffett, Jr. with many documents of Caleb Smith, 1860-1890; articles by Seba Smith, 1842-1857; "Pig Skin Book" kept by William "Tangier" Smith on a whaling voyage in 1697 which was later used by his wife for accounts (1704-1706); and maps of Smith property in Mastic, Manhasset Valley, and Glen Cove.
