Considered one of Hollywood's finest movies, this movie was nominated for 11 Oscars. Tells the true story of Alvin York, a simple backwoods Tennessee farm boy, torn between religious pacifism and patriotism. York became the most acclaimed hero of World War I through his capture of 132 German soldiers during the Battle of Argonne. The movie tells of a Christian man's moral crisis, heroics and subsequent return to the rural life he loved, refusing to capitalize on the adulation heaped upon him.
