  • "The collection consists mainly of personal papers, clippings, publications, etc. relating to the impact of the Nazi and Soviet governments on art and artists during and immediately following World War II, ca. 1933-1950. Partially acquired while serving in the United States military, the papers provide documentary support for Lehmann-Haupt's book "Art Under A Dictatorship" (Oxford University Press: 1954). Additionally, the collection contains documentation related to art and government in postwar Germany, including letters from German artists, critics, museum directors, etc. written in the autumn of 1951. Correspondence, photographs, notes, etc. regarding the painter Theodor Werner and the textile artist Woty Werner are also found."
