"A tragic love story set in a village in the Tyrols in the first half of the eighteenth century. Rodolfo, son of Count Walter, is in love with Luisa, the daughter of Miller, an old soldier living in the village, and wants to marry her. Luisa returns Rodolfo's love and also wants to marry him. But the lovers' wishes are thwarted not only by Rodolfo's father, but also by Wurm, a man of the village who also loves Luisa and wants to marry her. This double opposition sets in motion a chain of events which ends in the tragic double suicide of the lovers."
