Vain glory
Reid in Vain Glory sifts through myths and pokes at the vanities of the boys and men who have been drawn into the glamour and the danger of Texas football. The book divides easily into three parts. The first part focuses on Texas high school football through the story of Wichita Falls' Lavender brothers. The second section deals with the Texas college game, especially Darrell Royal and the Longhorns. The third part explores the phenomenon of "America's Team," the Dallas Cowboys, and tries to penetrate the mystery of Houston's failure to produce a winning team.
