  • ""Oscar-winning actress Sally Field returns to TV--where she launched her career as Gidget (1965-66) and The flying nun (1967-70). Those fluffy sitcoms are a far cry from this miniseries, an elaborately produced period piece and character study spanning from the turn of the century to 1963. Field portrays Bess Alcott, a smart and perky Texas belle from a well-to-do family whose sweet smile masks a steel will. In 1907, Bess marries her childhood sweetheart, an enterprising real-estate agent named Robert Steed, and begins to raise a family amid enough turmoil, triumphs and tragedies to upstage a Harlequin romance"--TV guide."@en
