Steele : a gathering of the clan

Robert Steele (ca. 1750-1821), a Revolutionary War soldier and son of Reuben Steele, a native of Argyll County, Scotland, was probably born in New River Valley, Virginia. The family moved to Prince Edward County, Virginia , in the early 1760s and later to Yadkin County, North Carolina. Robert Steele returned to Prince Edward County, Virginia, in 1770 and married Mary Keeling. They settled in the New River Valley where they had seven children, ca. 1773-ca. 1783. Mary Steele died in the late 1780s. He married 2) Rebecca Ouray. They had eight children, ca. 1795-1812. Robert Steele died in Wythe County, Virginia. Descendants listed lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and elsewhere.
