"Summary: Born in Moscow, Vasily Kandinsky (1866-l944) is often regarded as the creator of the first pure abstraction in modern painting. He moved to Germany in 1896, went back to Russia when World War I broke out, returned to Germany in l922 and, in l933, after Hitler came to power, settled in France. His work had a considerable influence on 20th century art and today he is acknowledged as one of the great modern masters. This unusual film presents an overview of his art. After an introductory section, it is divided into four chronological segments and takes the form of a stroll around an exhibition of his work, with a shadowy character described as "the man who walks" (reminiscent in outline of Kandinsky himself) as the inadvertent guide. Besides the occasional interpretations offered by this figure, there is also a more introspective commentary that attempts to link the visuals.
