On the dark night when Frank Gilby shot at a man coming out of the alley near the bank, he didn't realize that it was his wife's lover until it was too late. Gilby and his wife split up and went their separate ways. Looking for work, Gilby would have been lynched as a rustler if Helena Goodnight and the boys from the Flying G hadn't saved him. The mayor gave Gilby the job of sheriff and his first task was to go after the rustlers who plagued the range. But he was going to face death many times before the dust finally settled.
