Then Bonnie Craig (Wilde), Thomas's honest cousin, goes into a trance and predicts Philip's death, just before the fraud dies in the same rigged elevator--a device that Bonnie ordered repaired and knew how to sabotage."

Sherwood had believed Ruth died in a plane crash, and besides being frantic to talk to Ruth, he's also understandably bewildered since his business partnership was purchased with the money from Ruth's airline insurance policy. When Sherwood gets a call to meet her at a bar he goes there, gets drunk, and leaves, only to find Ruth dead. By the time Perry arrives, the body has vanished, but Ruth later turns up in a wrecked car, dead of strangulation, with all clues pointing to William as the murderer."

In "The case of the posthumous painter": Gifted artist Jack Colross (Lomond) apparently commits suicide by walking into the sea, but it's really a hoax arranged by Colross and art dealer Austin Durrant (Brwin.) Durrant buys the contents of the painter's studio for $5,000, then sells the paintings for a fortune. But the artist's wife Edna (March) and her brother Clint (Evers) notice that one of the masterpieces was finished after Colross supposedly died. After the police discover Clint driving a car with Colross's corpse in the back seat, both brother and sister are charged with muder."
