Stephen King's The langoliers

At L.A. airport, the unsuspecting passengers of the almost full "red eye" overnight flight to Boston prepare for an uneventful trip. They're wrong. Ten passengers fall asleep right after take off and awaken mid-flight to discover they are the only people left on the plane. Purses, watches, coins and fillings from teeth remain. But the seats are empty, the galleys are empty, and the plane is flying on automatic pilot. An off-duty airline pilot takes charge and they finally land the plane in Bangor, Maine.
