Nuris weiteres Leben, seine Zeit in einem nordenglischen Internat, sein Studium in London, seine Schwärmerei für Mona sowie deren abruptes Ende, alles ist überschattet von einer Mischung aus widerstreitenden Gefühlen, von Liebe, Schuld, Reue, Angst, die den jungen Mann, zu dem Nuri im Laufe des Romans wird, prägen. Und es dauert lange, bis er die Kraft findet, den letzten Schritten seines Vaters vor dem Verschwinden nachzuspüren und sein eigenes Leben in die Hand zu nehmen."
