A pioneer family of the West
Mr. Abbott immigrated from England to Massachusetts, married Dorothy Stiles, and their son, Josiah Abbott (ca.1790-1859), was the grandfather of the author. After the death of his father, Josiah and his mother moved to Jaffrey, New Hampshire and then to Warrensville, Ohio, where he married Anna Hollister and moved to Monroe County, Missouri. Descendants and relatives lived in Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, California, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma and elsewhere.
