There is no trace of Paul Luden's estranged wife at his old home, a two-bedroom log cabin on the shores of Granite Lake. It's Autumn. The summer people are long gone and the year-round population is sparse. No one in the small community has seen her for days. Paul and Molly's marriage had come undone years before, the victim of a bizarre trauma that unravelled both their lives. Now, alerted by a neighbour that she is missing, Paul returns to the Pacific Northwest with his embarrassingly young girlfriend in tow to search for Molly.
