"Portfolio of twelve dust-grain photogravures printed in 1991 of photographs created by Roy DeCarava, 1950-1979. The images chiefly depict portraits of African American individuals, couples, and groups in the Brooklyn borough of New York, New York, as well as buildings and a Fourth of July picnic. Portraits of identified individuals include singer and songwriter Billie Holiday in 1952; jazz vibraphonist Milt Jackson in 1956; singer, actor, and activist Paul Robeson in 1950; and jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver in 1963. The portfolio also includes a brief essay by Sherry Turner DeCarava. Paul M. Taylor of Renaissance Press made the photogravure plates, while Clary Nelson of Chestnut Street Press hand printed the photogravures on Arches paper."
