Many of the poems are verse translations of hymns, copied from William Graham's The Jordan And The Rhine. Other entries include a poem titled A Christmas Carol, dated 1867; and a poem by Sir Walter Scott titled On The Bible, which the manuscript notes is "ascribed to Lord Byron. Printed in Barker's Literary Reminiscences." A poem called An Old Romance In Three Parts is annotated "From the German (Well. Coll. concert 1867). Set to music by Mendelssohn"; and An Impromptu by F. Nunn, Captain of Bury School is titled Snails Versus Oysters. Pasted in at the beginning of many of the poems is a small square of paper with a decorated initial printed on it."
