"Collection consists of approximately 50 letters from Brendan Gill to William Shawn, a long-time editor at The New Yorker. In addition to producing collections of poetry, novels, and biographies, Gill was a regular contributor to The New Yorker from 1936 onward, as film, theater, and architecture critic. Gill's letters deal chiefly with submissions to The New Yorker, though some letters touch on publishing and 20th century American literature. Enclosures include clippings, copies of articles, and third party correspondence, such as a letter to Gill from Katharine Sergeant Angell White, also an editor at The New Yorker. Articles include an obituary of John O'Hara and a summary of his memoir, Here at The New Yorker."
