Mark Twains Speeches

Much like famous authors and comedians of today, Mark Twain was a popular speaker on the lecture circuit, giving numerous speeches to clubs and organizations in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Though many of his talks highlighted his trademark sense of humor, he also gave speeches on more serious issues of the day, including a 1901 lecture that is considered one of the most important speeches in support of women's voting rights. In this 1910 volume, discover a selection of Twain's speeches that runs the gamut from the humorous (an 1899 anecdote about his delight at learning a fourteen-syllable, ninety-five letter German word), to the history-making (the aforementioned "Votes for Women").
