Cognitive bases of musical communication : Conference : Papers

Part 1 introduces various perspectives on the role of meaning and affect in musical communication. Part 2 presents three different approaches to listener's interpretive responses to musical structure as a musical event unfolds in real time. Part 3 describes a variety of approaches to pitch perception and its role in determining a listener's sense of tonality. In Part 4, important new perspectives on the representation and acquisition of musical knowledge are presented. Part 5 considers some provocative work on performance that explores how performers convey one of several interpretations of a score to listeners.
