"This book presents state of the knowledge information concerning dietary fat and cancer. Each chapter summarizes a particular topic that was presented by an expert in the field at the Conference in 1996. The purpose is to provide a summary of the topics and posters presented at this annual meeting. It is intended for nutrition and cancer researchers interested in the role of fat in regulating molecular and genetic events within a cell and the potential implications for tumorigenesis. Each chapter is a written summary a presentation. Each expert is a recognized authority in the nutrition and cancer scientific community. Many of the tables and figures in each chapter are original data. This book is a very useful reference for nutrition and cancer researchers interested in the relationship between fat and tumorigenesis. Particular attention is given to fatty acids as regulators of cellular events such as cell proliferation or secondary messengers. One of the major anatomical sites for cancer occurrence, the breast, is discussed in detail. Some attention is also given to the colon. Very few other anatomical sites are discussed. The topics covered provide a good overview of the latest knowledge at that time. The book is not a complete reference on all topics related to fat and cancer but well worth reading for the topics covered."
