Issues of assessing and evaluating learning and teaching have become a dominant concern in recent years not only among those professionally involved in education, but in the community generally. This is especially true of literacy learning. Yet many teachers have a developing sense of unease with the traditional methods of evaluation they are expected to use. Responsive Evaluation describes the journey of a group of classroom teachers, administrators and researchers as they addressed the issues of evaluation and assessment. They wanted to find a model that was congruent with the way literacy is taught and which would convince parents and the general public that there were credible alternatives to traditional methods of evaluating learning.
