M60 vs T-62 Cold War combatants 1956-92

The M60 and the T-62 were both evolutionary developments of the US M48 and the USSR T-54/55 tanks which made up the bulk of the American/NATO and Soviet/Warsaw Pact Cold War armor inventory. Indeed, the later decades of the Cold War were the high-water mark of the importance of the main battle tank as each side strove to design a war-winning vehicle. These two rival tanks never clashed in Europe as had been originally envisaged. However, they saw extensive action throughout the Middle East, in particular during the Yom Kippur War, the Iran-Iraq War and the first Gulf War. Through a series of refinements and design changes these tanks served as the backbone of many nations' armies for several decades. Indeed, they still serve throughout the world today and may continue to do so for a generation to come. This book highlights these two goliaths of the Cold War, their rival approaches to fighting tank warfare, their revolutionary design features and the application of this technology on the battlefield.
