The major's minion

Determined to prove her brother innocent of murder, Katherine sets out in male disguise to find the real criminal. The most likely suspect is Major Lancaster, a hero of the Peninsular War. After she saves the Major's life, he offers her a place in his household. He finds in this intelligent and sympathetic youth (as he believes) a person to whom he can unburden his soul, while she finds in him something very close to her ideal man. But as her love grows, so does her belief in his guilt, and she faces the agonizing choice of sending either him or her brother to the gallows.
