  • "That Greve's untitled, but signed introduction ["Bonn, Oktober 1903"] to these two O. Wilde translations actually is his otherwise elusive essay "Randarabesken zu Oscar Wilde" becomes apparent in the preliminary pages of Bruns' advertisements, where the following text is printed under the essay's full title: "Der ganze Zauber von Wildes blendender Personlichkeit weht durch diese von dithyrambischem Schwunge erfullten Impromptus, die zugleich die Einleitung zu dem vorliegenden Buche bilden."--In October 1903, Greve was in Bonn prison for defrauding his friend Herman [sic!] Kilian."
  • "Probably a second edition of Greve's translation. FPG's lengthy preface, is dated "Bonn, Oktober 1903" which indicates that he wrote it and also translated Wilde's two texts while in prison. The introductory essay is numbered in arabic numerals which have been included in the pagination as pages 1-50. Both the essay and the text of the translations have remained unchanged in comparison to the first edition of 1903. This copy, however, is bound in (pale) plum-coloured cloth. The cover and spine titles appear in gold frames and letters: Oscar Wilde / Erzahlungen. Opposite the title page is an interesting list of the translator's output with Bruns Publishers, which allows to date this book to late 1905. Acquired from List & Francke."
  • "Copy text for the revised version of Wilde's story as it was published by Mitchell Kennerley in 1921. It consists of pages from the story as first published in Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine, July 1889, with manuscript corrections and marginal additions, and some pages entirely in manuscript. Also present are a carbon copy of a typescript report (5 p.) written for Kennerley by Arthur Hooley, concerning possible "grounds for offense" in the story; a prospectus (4 p.) for the Kennerley edition, and a clipping from the New York Post, 20 June 1921, about Kennerley and the manuscript."
